Week of March 2

This week in ELA, we finished our famous Canadians speeches, went to see the Neverending Story, got assigned books for Friday novel studies and got organized into groups. Next week, we will be watching the Neverending Story movie and doing comprehension and extension activities related to that.

Social Studies
This week in Social Studies, we finished learning about Confederation. Next week, we will be working on a Confederation Timeline project.

Math
This week (Feb 24- Feb 28)  in Math we started our unit (chapter 6) on equations. We activated prior knowledge on how to identify expressions in a math problem and used that knowledge to practice how to write and identify linear equations. Students practiced solving equations using two different methods. Students homework this week was page 223 # 1-5 , # 6-11 and also pages 229-230 # 1-4. Next week we will continue into the unit with using a model to solve equations and solving equations with integers.

FLA:
This week we will be completing a listening comprehension exercise and then we will review and build upon our understanding of the passé composé verb tense.  We will break it down into three lessons with supporting practice exercises.

In Social Studies this week, we began discussing the factors that led to Canadian confederation. Next week we will be beginning a project where students will be creating a visual, illustrated timeline for confederation. It will be due the following week.

Math:
This week in math the students wrote their mid term exam. This pertained to all four chapters we studied in the first term. Students prepared for this exam through extensive reviews in class last week as well as studying  and reviewing last week and during the long weekend. The chapters and review pages are mentioned in last weeks blog. Students wrote the written portion on Tuesday and were given two additional periods Wednesday and Thursday for the second part of the exam (the multiple choice portion). On Friday we went over part A (written portion) together and reviewed all the concepts included in that part. Students had the opportunity to look over their exam and ask questions.

**Please check Power School as marks/results for the mid-term exam will be posted there soon.

* *Students that were absent during this mid-term will have the opportunity to take the exam upon their return. It is the students responsibility to study and review with the use of their notes and textbook during their absence (when possible).

Math

In math class this week we spent the week doing a review of  the four chapters and concepts we learned in the first term in preparation for the upcoming mid term exam. We looked at concepts explored in chapters 1, 2 ,3 and 5. The grade 7 classes will be writing a mid term exam starting on their return from this 5day long weekend. The mid term will take place on Tuesday Feb 17th. Students have been advised to do additional review and to continue to study those chapters. Students have been asked to take home their class notebooks and to do several examples from the text in the review pages. They have writen these pages in their notebooks. Just in case you forgot the information. Chapitre 2 Page 79-80, Chapitre 3 Page 121-122, Chapitre 5 Page 213-214 and Chapitre 1 Page 44 - 46. Students are highly recommended to do examples from each concept found on those pages as a study\review tool for the midterm.

** Reminder, class expectations are that students that are absent from school for a duration of time are responsible to do the review and work they have missed at home if unable to come to class. The textbook can really assist with great examples found before each exercise.
