Week of Dec. 2nd

Sciences:
We will view varied ways for plants to reproduce including flowers and their parts.
Study sheet for theme 2 is due Thursday Dec. 5th.
Students should spend some time regularly working on their Méga-Résumé.

ELA:
This prepared our creation stories to be orally recounted. Some told their stories starting Thursday. The rest will be performing Monday through Wednesday next week. Afterwards, we will be beginning our next unit by learning reading strategies for non-fiction/informational texts.

Social Studies:
This week, we continued learning about the French settlement in Canada. We began our red paperclip project. Next week, we will begin research for a digital slideshow presentation about the English settlement in Canada.

Math
This week in Math we continued with adding fractions using a common denominator as well as doing a review of the first part of the unit. Students wrote a mid unit quiz on Thursday involving the addition of fractions using a visual representations/pictures and using common denominators. The work done in class and at home was page 188 # 1- 7 and page 190 # 1- 8. 
Next week the math class will look at using models and symbols. We may get to the part of adding fractions with mixed numbers. 

FLA: 

This week we will be finishing up our work with last week's reading comprehension activities.  We will then start taking a look at possessive pronouns, and engaging in some comprehension activities and exercises to reinforce our understanding.

Week of Nov. 25th

Science:
Study sheet for theme 1 is due Monday.
We will study different structures and adaptation of plants.

FLA:
This week you will have some organizational time to revisit some of your past and make changes/improvements or get caught up on missed assignments.  Later in the week we will engage in some more listening comprehension activities.

Math:
This week in math we looked at the first part of chapter 5, operations with fractions. This first involved activating prior knowledge including; equivalent fractions, relating mixed numbers and improper fractions. The class also worked on using models/drawings of geometric shapes to add fractions. The work we did in the textbook was pages 179-180 # 1 - 7 and pages 183-184 # 1 - 7. We also studied how to add fractions using symbols, ( using common denominators and different denominators) Next week we will continue with operations with fractions and look at subtracting fractions.
**Reminder, students if you are absent during the week, it is your responsibility to make up the work you missed in class and to inquire with your teacher on what you have missed as well as do the homework posted on the blog.

Week of Nov. 18th

ELA:
This week we did typing and final edits to our Creation Myths. They are due Monday (though they can be printed during class if necessary). Next week, we will have our unit test for our Myths and Legends Unit, with Monday as a day to study. After that, we will begin to prepare our performances for our myths. As requested, here are links to some of the pieces that you don't have your own copies of. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Études Sociales:
This week we viewed and discussed some Canada Heritage Minutes related to important events in Canadian History. Students also wrote journal entries from the point of view of either one of Jacques Cartier's men or one of Donnacona's to explore how a historical conflict can have different perspectives. Next week we will be continuing on our Journey through History with Samuel de Champlain.

Math:
This week in math we continued to to do work on relating fractions, decimals and percents. We also focused on the last part of the unit involving solving percent problems. The class did a complete review of the unit. On Thursday we wrote our fractions,decimal and percent unit test. The work we did in the textbook was Pages 115-116 # 1 - 8, Pages 121 1 - 6 and the unit review handout. Next week we will start a new unit, chapter 5 which is "Operations with Fractions".  Have a great weekend. 😊


Sciences:
All but one "Creature" presentation are done. We are now starting our 2nd unit on plants. Study sheet for theme 1 unit 2 is due Nov. 20th.

FLA:
This week we will finish our festival projects. They are taking longer than anticipated but they have been worth it as they have been very engaging and interesting so far!  On Tuesday afternoon we will be fortunate enough to watch a French rap performance from a Quebec rap and slam artist from Quebec.  On Monday I will give you a little preview of who he is and introduce you to some of his work in anticipation of his performance.

Week of November 12

FLA:
This week we will be finishing up our book talks and French festival research projects.  Presentations begin on Thursday so be ready to share your project with the class!Math: 

Math: 
This week in Math (Nov 4-8 ) we explored how to do order of operations with decimals. The class looked at how to relate fraction, decimals and percents. WE examines and practiced how to solve percent problems. Class work and homework we did in the text book...page 110  # 1 - 6 and 7 - 11. Pages 112-113 # 1 - 4. On Thursday (focus day) students were suppose to work on pages 115-116 # 1 -8 and it was assigned as homework if not completed in class. 

Next week we will have the unit test for Fractions, Decimals and Percents on Wednesday Nov 13, students have been advised. Students are expected to study over the long weekend and to do a general review of all the concepts visited in this unit. Students can do page 121 # 1 - 9 as a tool to review We will continue our review on Monday and Tuesday next week.
